Ancient Egyptian Anecdotes
Papyri translations, which have been edited to make them easy for the modern reader.
It's the Ancient Egyptians in their own words supported with background text and full colour illustrations.

Newsletter 021

If you read my blog you’ll be aware of my new project; an idea that's been languishing for years without a publisher willing to invest in it. So I’ve decided to publish it myself.

The book is called ‘Ancient Egyptian Anecdotes’ and consists of ancient Egyptian Papyri translations, which I’ve edited to make them easy for the modern reader. It's the Ancient Egyptians in their own words supported with background text and full colour illustrations.

I’ve taken two months off work and set myself the challenge of writing and illustrating it in that time. I started on the 1st march and am on schedule to finish at the end of April.

I will only have 1000 paperback copies made but there are around 3000 subscribers to this newsletter so not everyone will be able to obtain a copy. Therefore, I'm going to only let subscribers pre-order before the book becomes available to the general public . Ancient Letters

The Proper way to address a letter to Pharaoh

The letters from subject kings of the Egyptian Empire were required to make a grovelling formal obeisance before getting to the point such as:-

“To the king, my Lord, my God and Sun, I prostrate myself at the feet of the king seven times, thy servant is the dust of thy feet.

I look on one side, and I look on the other side, and there is no light; but I look on my lord, my king, and there is light”.

These formal greetings could be extremely long winded; one can imagine a busy pharaoh and his scribes skipping the sycophantic hyperbole as they waded through a pile of mail.

This site is well worth a visit but it’s hard to find in the search engines because its designers did not understand Search Engine Optimisation. The navigation does not work properly so it is tricky to find your way around. Go straight to the table of contents
